London 15 May 2000 - World Online Telecom, the UK's first provider of unmetered, free Internet access, has selected Mirapoint's Internet messaging infrastructure solutions to manage its ISP, Freedom 24's growing customer base of over 500 e-mail accounts per day.
Hosted in London by Colt Telecom, Mirapoint's servers replace substantially more expensive general purpose machines from Sun and Compaq.
The servers provide World Online Telecom with the market's most scaleable and reliable e-mail server solutions, allowing the company to concentrate on growing its services and customer base rather than e-mail management.
"Mirapoint's dedicated e-mail servers are the only products we found that could cope with our growth in messaging", comments Jeremy Stokes, World Online Telecom's managing director. "We needed to be 110 per cent confident with the system. In this extremely competitive market place, we can't afford to let our customers down - when the going gets tough we know that Mirapoint's servers won't fail."
Each of the three M1000 servers can manage 150,000 POP e-mail accounts. Designed to handle the explosive demand for Internet messaging, the servers have a performance and reliability far superior to freeware or general-purpose platforms such as Unix System or Windows NT servers. In addition, the simplicity of the products ensures that the in-house e-mail expertise and management costs required are exceptionally low.
Mirapoint is defining the Internet messaging network model of the future. Its architecture is the first that provides efficient message routing, storage and access.
Stokes expects that as World Online Telecom's messaging demands escalate to the next level, he may incorporate Mirapoint's Internet Messaging Router into the network. "In addition to routing messages to designated servers," he says, "Customers will also benefit from virus and spam eradication before it reaches their PCs".
"Unmetered 24/7 Internet access has already put consumer usage through the roof", adds Albert Benhamou, Mirapoint's European vice president.
"Service providers will not survive if they do not provide their customers with robust e-mail infrastructures. Home grown remedies are simply not scalable enough and require far too much administrative time and investment."
Mirapoint has just launched a server enabling service providers to become ASPs by offering hosted Internet messaging options to their business customers. The new Delegated Domain administration facility allows the customer to dictate the level of control they want over their e-mail system, the location of their data, and the outsourcing requirement.
Market research has shown that the e-mail messaging market is expanding exponentially. The Gartner Group says that by 2001, 40 per cent of business communication will be via e-mail. According to analysts IDC, there will be an estimated 757 million e-mail mailboxes by 2005.
