Retailer HMV has reported a notable improvement in its staff selection process after placing all of its external recruitment, including temporary and holiday workers, online last month. The company receives between 60-100 job applications a day across its 190 stores in the UK and Ireland. Sam Pierce, head of retail human resources at HMV, said the refurbished careers website has already improved the quality of its staff selection and streamlined the application process. The new centralised recruitment centre dealing with all applications has also freed up local store managers from spending time sifting through application forms, Pierce added. The recruitment website, designed in collaboration with technology consultancy Changework, features three questionnaires for applicants, assessing their backgrounds, relevant skills and general information. If the responses are positive, candidates are then given an online application form, tailored to a particular job within HMV.
