Xbox is most searched for console in the US

Xbox 360 Microsoft's Xbox 360 has overtaken the Wii as the most searched for games console in the US, according to figures from Hitwise.

The research group's Bill Tancer said the increase in searches was down to a combination of factors - hype about new games, rumours of a drop in prices, as well as 'red ring of death' issues.

Why the Xbox isn't doomed (it really isn't)

James at GigaOm has written a post today in which he predicts that Microsoft's Xbox is doomed, mainly as a result of the Wii's success and the various 'red ring of death' issues which have affected many of the consoles.

However, we reckon James is being a little hasty in his judgement, and is not seeing the bigger picture.

While the failure rate of Xbox consoles - as much as 33% by some estimates - is hardly a great advert for the Xbox, it hasn't been enough to dent the console's popularity beyond repair, and Microsoft has built up an enviable position, both in terms of market share and in securing an installed base of millions for future multmedia plays.

Wrigley's lauches Wii adver-games

Chewing gum maker Wrigley has launched a digital marketing campaign with a difference, rolling out a series of games on Nintendo's Wii games machine.

The company opened its CandyStand mini-games portal on the console's Internet Channel.

First launched in 1997, it includes a selection of brand-laden games like Altoids Sheep and The Great Flying Mintini. Availability on the Wii means players will be able to use Nintendo's innovative wiimote controller to interact with the features.

Nintendo boosts Game Christmas sales

Nintendo's Wii and DS Lite games consoles helped boost British retailer Game 's Christmas sales by 15.6% and the group now expects to reap higher annual overall sales as a result.

Demand for the innovative devices rocketed sales in the six weeks to January 6, with the Brain Training DS title amongst the most popular games.
