PR tries to sell 'afterthebailout.com' on eBay for $1m

Kudos to Annie Jennings for trying, but something tells me that she’s not going to sell the domain name ‘AfterTheBailout.com’ for more than a million bucks.

Annie, who runs a New Jersey-based PR firm, has fired over two jaw-dropping press releases informing me that the "hottest domain name AfterTheBailout.com is on sale at eBay", with the minimum bid set to a staggering $1m.

Number of bids to date? Zero.

A friend of mine recently purchased a new computer from a major computer brand that shall remain nameless (I will give a hint, however - it starts with an "L" and ends with an "o").

E-commerce sales grew by over 50% last year - IMRG

The UK’s online retailers generated some £46.6bn in sales last year, up 54% on 2006, according to new stats from the IMRG.

However, there were signs that the sector had not escaped the effects of the consumer credit crunch towards the end of the year.

Consumers who research online spend more offline - report

People who research their electronics purchases on the internet spend 10% more in store than those who don't research online, according to a study by Yahoo and ChannelForce.

Yahoo and ChannelForce surveyed 1,100 US adults in electrical stores, and found that the majority of electronics buyers researched their purchases online before visting the store.

Global CD sales fall, downloads on the rise

Global CD sales fell sharply in 2006 and, though downloads of music are on the increase, overall music sales declined.

Figures from the IFBI, the global music industry association show that total music sales fell 5% from $20.7bn (£10.25bn) in 2005 to $19.6bn (£9.73bn) last year.

WebAds, the Holland-based European internet advertising network, has opened a UK office in London.

The company has launched a new, localised website at webads.co.uk, and appointed a management team at premises in Clerkenwell to service advertisers and publishers in Britain and around Europe.

Online sales will rise by 40% in 2007 - IMRG

The IMRG has predicted that the UK online sales boom will continue through Christmas into next year, with the internet driving sales of up to £42 billion in 2007, up from about £30 billion this year.

The prediction comes in the wake of the biggest ever month for online retail sales. A record £2.7 billion was spent online last month by UK shoppers, beating the record set last December.

Majestic Wine sees increase in online orders

Majestic Wines, the bulk wine retailer, has announced an increase of 43% in online sales but expressed concern about an upcoming EU ruling on tax duty on alcohol purchases via the web.

In its interim results for the 26 weeks ended 26 September, the company made a pre-tax profit of £6.5 million, a rise of 17%. Online sales were responsible for 6.4% of its UK retail sales.
