UK broadband connections up by a third

The number of UK broadband connections reached 13.1m at the end of last year, up from 9.8m at the end of 2005, according to the latest figures. 

Point Topic's Q4 survey puts the worldwide total of broadband lines at 281.5m, with 17.7m lines added in the three months. The year on year growth rate was 31.1%, with broadband penetration worldwide reaching 5.4%.

UK digital divide driven by internet 'refuseniks'

According to new research from Point Topic, resistance to the internet is growing among the portion of the population currently without access.

By early 2006, an estimated 11.2 million households in the UK (44%) had no internet access at home. Of those households, 74.6% don’t think it is important to, a rise from 51.7% in the same survey last year.

Customers unhappy with broadband customer service

A new survey has shown that consumers are generally happy with the quality of home internet services, but also revealed a high level of dissatisfaction over customer service.

In Point Topic’s latest Broadband Consumer Survey, 91% of broadband customers said they were happy with the quality and reliability of their internet service, and 82% are satisfied with download times.

UK broadband coverage will reach 64% in next 2 years

New research predicts rapid growth in UK broadband coverage over the next two years, with broadband penetration reaching levels of up to 90% in some areas. 

Point Topic's forecast uses data from each of the 222,000 Census areas in the UK, allowing them to paint a geographical picture of broadband take-up around the country.
