Q&A: Dermot Corrigan of image search company Imprezzeo

Launched this week, Imprezzeo is a search software company that aims to improve image search, offering a way to use images rather than text to search for pictures.

The technology behind Imprezzeo's image search was developed by University of Wollongong and the University of Queensland in Australia, though the company s based in London.

Polar Rose launches photo search tool in beta

Polar Rose is a Swedish startup that's developing photo search and facial recognition technology for use on the web. It has recently launched in a private beta.

Polar Rose aims to use the technology to make images on the internet as searchable as text documents and web pages. It raised $5.1m in funding from Nordic Venture Partners last year to develop its product.

Swedish startup raises $5.1 million for image search technology

Polar Rose, a startup based in Malmö, Sweden, has announced the receipt of $5.1 million from Nordic Venture Partners for its facial recognition and visual search technology.

Polar Rose’s Bloom technology uses a combination of automatic facial recognition with 3D modelling to look for photos on the Internet. In addition,  Polar Rose’s image search will allow users to tag photos to improve recognition.

Like.com image search engine lauched by Riya

A new kind of image search is being launched today by Riya, which will allow users to search for images using both text and images as queries.

Other image searches rely on text queries, which depend on the data attached to the image file. This is not necessarily a reliable way to search, which is where Like.com comes in.
