Consumers say no to mobile TV, will get it anyway

Just a few months after predicting the adoption of mobile TV as a mainstream service by 2010, a new survey of mobile consumers by Gartner has found little consumer enthusiasm for the medium in Europe.

Earlier in the year Gartner predicted that mobile TV would provide an additional revenue stream for operators, with the market growing from 38m users in 2007 to 356m in 2010.

But a new survey by the same firm has found that only 5% of Europeans are likely to watch mobile TV in the next 12 months.

Businesses warned to wait for Second Life opportunities

Eighty percent of businesses will have a presence in a virtual world, says a new Gartner report that otherwise heaps suspicion on the value of Second Life e-commerce.

The tech research firm advises businesses to "limit substantial financial investments until the environments stabilise and mature".

A post by Pranam Kolari on ebiquity's blog claims that the English-speaking blogosphere has reached its peak.

This echoes predictions made by Gartner in December that the blogosphere will top out this year at 100m blogs, and start to decline thereafter.

Gartner predicts that blogging will peak next year

Gartner yesterday released its ten key predictions for business and IT in 2007 and beyond. These included forecasts that PC prices will halve by 2010, and that Vista will be the last major Windows release.

Another prediction caught the eye though - that the blogging phenomenon will peak next year and level out thereafter.

Security concerns cost etailers £2bn

Security concerns are proving a major barrier to the growth of e-commerce, according to a study by Gartner.

Gartner estimates that online sales to the value of $2bn were lost in 2006 because of concerns about malware and the theft of personal and credit card information.
