FeedBurner drops charges for pro services

RSS feed management service FeedBurner is abolishing charges for two of its premium features, now that it is owned by Google.

TotalStats and MyBrand, which give users extended data and on-site feed URLs, were previously available under FeedBurner's PRO package at a cost of between $3 and $14.

Google has continued its recent spending splurge with the purchase of FeedBurner, the Chicago-based distributor of news feeds to web browsers.

Thought to be in the region of $100m (£50m), the deal offers the web giant a chance to extend its huge online ad network into the realm of RSS and off-site consumption of content.

The deal has not been officially confirmed by either party, but TechCrunch, and others are reporting that the deal has been confirmed, according to a 'source close to the deal'.

'360-degree' view of site metrics

Feed management service Feedburner has rolled out a new website statistics package following its acquisition of blog tracking service BlogBeat.

While Feedburner previously only offered metrics on subscribers' RSS feeds and clicks to corresponding pages on the main site, the integration of the new features allows publishers to tackle the thorny problem of marrying stats for both web and feed views.
