eBay taps into social commerce

eBay is looking to improve its stickiness for buyers by creating 600 social networks around items for sale on the site.

The ‘Neighborhoods’ feature amalgamates shoppers’ photos, reviews, tips and responses in a bid to provide a fuller experience than the site’s existing discussion forums.

Rise in profits announced by eBay

Internet auction site eBay has announced a 10% rise in its third-quarter profits, posting a 31% increase in sales, to $1.4 billion (£748.9m) in the three months up to September. The company's net income was $281 billion.

The profits rise was driven by a growth in its auctions; its payment service PayPal increased revenue by 41% over last year’s third quarter results.

Ebay launches new UK shopping service

Auction website eBay has today launched the UK version of its new online shopping service, eBay Express. The site will sell both new and used goods at fixed prices. 

All of the sellers on the site have been signed up to a professional code of conduct by eBay, to ensure that they all offer returns policies and guaranteed delivery dates.

The company hopes that the site will attract those shoppers who prefer a more more conventional e-commerce shopping experience.

British Museum to monitor eBay antiquity sales

eBay has teamed up with The British Museum and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council in an attempt to cut down on the illegal sale of antiquities on eBay.co.uk.

eBay sellers promise more protests

Angry eBay store-owners have vowed to continue their fight against fee hikes after the end of their five-day protest yesterday. 

A spokesperson for the Campaign of Rebuffed Ebayers, which asked sellers and buyers to boycott the site between Thursday and Monday, said it would be arranging more demonstrations to promote eBay competitors such as Ebid, Tazbar and Amazon.
