BT cuts wholesale broadband prices

ADSL broadband costs could be about to fall in the UK after BT announced price reductions to its wholesale connectivity offerings.

From May 1, the telecom giant will cut the price per line charged to internet service providers from £8.40 to £7.63, a 9% reduction.

Small firms' VoIP use 'to double' by 2008

The number of UK small businesses making phone calls over the internet is set to double over the next year, according to research carried out for BT.

The company said the number of firms using VoIP will rise from the current 25% to 48%.

BT launches MySpace for SMEs

BT has launched an online service that helps small businesses use social media tools like blogs and podcasts in their company marketing.

BT Tradespace is pitched as taking "a giant leap forward in digital marketing", encouraging users to "join a fast-growing community of buyers and sellers in your specific business area".

BT pioneers new ‘spam-buster’ system

BT hopes to take a lead in the battle against the scourge of spam on the internet by introducing a new system designed to filter out spam before it reaches their customer’s PCs.

BT’s Content Forensics system, devised by StreamShield Networks, will scan millions of emails every day, alerting them to the location of spam related problems on its network.

BT enters social networking space

BT has teamed up with American group Podshow to launch a UK version of the popular aggregation service for user generated content.

The site – an interesting link between social networking sites and traditional TV programming - provides a platform for individuals, record companies and media outlets to post and edit audio and visual content online.

BT denies Bebo approach, Web 2.0 shark not yet jumped

TechCrunch reports that Bebo has spurned the advances of UK telecoms behemoth BT, which is rumoured to have offered more than £300m ($552m) for the social networking site.

However, a senior BT executive told E-consultancy that this is nonsense.

Our BT source said: “We can state categorically that BT has not had any discussions with, or made any approach to, Bebo. We're not sure where this rumour came from.”

UPDATE: Bebo's Xochi Birch also emailed me to say: "BT has not approached us and we currently have no contact with anyone at BT." She also has no clue about where the rumour came from.
