Twingly is a new, European blog search engine which has just launched in beta. It aims to beat its rivals by providing "spam-free" results.

Bill Slawski at SEO by the Sea has an interesting post which gives an insight into how Google's Blog Search ranks its results. He has come across a patent application by Google which explains some of the ranking factors.

The patent application, 'Ranking Blog Documents', shows how Google ranks blogs according to searchers' queries based upon a combination of relevance and quality scores.

Google has given a boost to the blogging community by highlighting its blog search service on Google News.

The move, which took place over the weekend, has seen links to the one year old service added to the front page of Google News and at the end of search results.
