Second Life users pass million mark

Linden Lab’s web-based virtual world Second Life has signed up its millionth customer.

The game's homepage said it had just under 1.03m residents at the time of writing, having had 0.96m yesterday, according to CNET.

Various blogs say that means the 'metaverse', launched in 2003, has signed up close to 100,000 new accounts in the past few days - pretty impressive growth.

Although it’s not clear how many of its users are still active, just over 400,000 have signed into the site in the last 60 days, according to its homepage.

Reuters became the latest firm to get involved in Second Life earlier this week, by setting up a virtual news bureau.
