Glossary Term "cable modem"

cable modem

Related Terms bandwidth, cable TV, downstream, Internet, modem
Description A modem that uses local telecommunications cables (typically used for cable TV transmissions) to provide a high bandwidth connection to the Internet. Theoretically a cable modem has a maximum downstream bandwidth of 27Mbps, but practically this is limited by the connections provided by phone companies to 1.5Mbps (which is still much more than conventional modems).
