Glossary Term "CRT"

CRT

Description Cathode Ray Tube, the part of a computer monitor that "draws" the screen display. The CRT contains an electron gun, which directs an electron beam at the phosphor backing of the screen. An image is created by illuminating different parts of the phosphor screen, line by line, pixel by pixel. By doing this rapidly and repeatedly, the illusion of a moving image can be maintained.
