Glossary Term "3D sound"

3D sound

Description A special effect that gives the illusion of sounds in front and behind the listener when using headphones. While 3D sound has been possible on computers for many years (as far back as 1994 with the Gravis Ultrasound), it's only recently that 3D sound standards have been adopted, such as EAX by Creative Labs and A3D by Aureal. Dolby's new 3D standard called Dolby Headphone allows surround sound through ordinary headphones.
