Glossary Term "bit bucket"

bit bucket

Description A "container" for information that is lost or not required. bit buckets are usually mythical, although some real ones do exist. For instance, spam that is deleted before being read may be redirected to a bit bucket (such as /dev/null on Linux systems). email that gets lost in transit is said to be in the bit bucket.
