| Description | Asynchronous Transfer Mode, a high-speed network protocol. It differs from most protocols in that all packets must be the same fixed size (53 bytes). Apparently this number was agreed upon after much study of other protocols to identify the optimal packet length. It is common in network backbone infrastructure. |
