| Description | On a computer, something has been saved as "text" if it contains only certain characters (letters, numbers, punctuation, and some special characters such as tab and newline). Because different computer platforms interpret these symbols differently, text files are converted to the appropriate format during a "text-mode" transfer. However, if text-mode is incorrectly chosen as the transfer method for a file, the resulting file may be corrupted ("cooked" MP3 files are one example of this). |
