| Description | A small program that constantly updates the screen (usually with pretty patterns) when the computer has been left idle for a SET period of time. Screen savers are used to avoid "burn-in", where a faint image is permanently burned into the phosphorus backing of the monitor screen. This was caused by leaving the same image displayed on a monitor screen for too long - however this isn't such a problem nowadays with newer monitor technologies. |
