Description acronym of Berkeley software Distribution. BSD refers to a range of open source operating systems that are derived from the version of UNIX developed at the University of Berkeley. Some operating systems that are derived from BSD include FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD and Mac OS X. The BSD License is an open source licence that permits modification and reuse of code in commercial and open source applications without having to release the source code publicly.
