candidate key

Related Terms database, key, primary key, superkey
Description A SET of table attributes that uniquely identifies each record within that database table. A candidate key is a minimal superkey - that is, no subset of the candidate key attributes forms a superkey. A relation may have many candidate keys, and any one of them can be used as the primary key.
