Job Description

Authoring knowledge bases for Creative Virtual clients according to their specification. Projects may last from a few days to several months, and it is likely that multiple knowledge bases will be worked on at the same time.

Maintenance of client knowledge bases on an ongoing basis.

Authoring small knowledge bases for sales demonstrations and pilot projects. Small demonstration knowledge bases may take as little as a few hours to complete.

Mentoring client authors as they move to take on the development and/or maintenance of their knowledge base.

Quality review of knowledge bases produced by clients as they begin to develop their Lingubots.

Project management of the authoring process. Resource and time management, liaising and consulting with clients and other Creative Virtual team members. Maintenance of project documents.

Providing occasional support on authoring problems.

Contribution to the Creative Virtual authoring community.

Good understanding of the issues facing the authoring community as the Creative Virtual product range evolves, and willingness to contribute to the development of the core knowledge base which provides the foundation on which subsequent Lingubots are built.

Potential involvement in developing and maintaining the English language online help files, training materials, and supporting documentation.

Possible training role, teaching Creative Virtual clients the basic principles of authoring a knowledge base over a 1-2 day period, usually in small groups of up to 6 people from more than one organisation. Occasional training on-site for smaller groups, and tailored to an individual client's needs.

Candidate Requirements

Able to think logically and understand Boolean operators, operator precedence and the impact of bracketing. Good analytical skills - systematic, persistent, patient and methodical.

Complete and thorough knowledge of the English language, both formally in terms of spelling, grammar and syntax, and informally in terms of modern idiom, everyday usage, slang, misspelling, jargon, street speak, and abbreviations used in communication channels such as SMS, instant messaging and chat rooms.

Good interpersonal skills for mentoring, project planning, consultation in Lingubot design, working in a small team. Good telephone manner, sympathetic attitude, and tact.

Excellent communication skills.

Ability to work productively on your own for long periods of time, but also to integrate tightly into a small and dedicated team. Well motivated and self-disciplined.

Project, resource and time management skills.

Flexible and committed approach to work. Must be goal-oriented and have a "can-do" attitude. Readiness to work unpaid overtime when the workload requires it, and to travel outside normal working hours. Flexibility to attend client or team meetings at short notice. Geographical proximity to London advantageous, but not essential.

Knowledge of basic HTML desirable. Whilst a good understanding of Internet technologies would be advantageous, such understanding is unlikely to be fully exploited or developed.

Knowledge of standard Microsoft desktop products, especially Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. (for producing reports, minutes and other project documentation) and Microsoft PowerPoint (for occasional production of training support materials).

Appreciation of the sales process, and its importance within a growing organisation.

Formal knowledge of linguistics useful but not essential.
