| Background: | Prior to the BBC John consulted in radio, entertainment and new media after a long spell with Virgin Entertainment Group companies, including Virgin Radio, where John launched their online operation in early 1996 – the first continually streaming internet radio station in Europe – and founded Ginger Online with the arrival of Chris Evans and his TV production units. in '98 whilst at Virgin, John was responsible for the first UK instance of 'hear it, buy it' , allowing internet listeners to purchase the particular track they were listening to. John was a founding member of the International Webcasting Association in both the US and Europe and was recently voted one of the top 50 people in the global streaming industry. John started off as a clinical psychology researcher after graduating from Newcastle University in Psychology, through a succession of finace roles, ending up as Finance Controller of Virgin Radio before taking the plunge into new media in 1995.

| Current: | After a brief spell as Business Development Manger for Radio & Music within BBC New Media, John is now Head of Distribution Technologies for BBC Radio and Music Interactive, responsible for a team developing services and applications across new and emerging platforms and devices, in addition to overseeing the text & data and business development functions.
