| Background: | Paul Myers has a proven and highly successful track record within both the music and Internet industries. In the 80's his work as a successful club DJ led on to a range of production activities the following decade. From 1989 to 1995, Mr Myers was a songwriter and record producer, producing work for Polydor Records, Warner Brothers Recordings, Rhythm King Records and Sony Music as well as contributing to movie soundtracks. This culminated in him being awarded a Platinum Disc for his production work on the 1991 Album "Boomania". After his success in music he turned his attention to the blossoming Internet Industry. After forming successful Internet businesses such as award winning web design agency, Nethead and the UK's first portal, G.O.D. he created a revolutionary idea that would change the face of the Internet.
His new company X-Stream launched the UK's first Free ISP in March 1998. This business model subsequently influenced many others and changed the way the Internet was by users access all over the world. Paul went on to build X-Stream into the UK's 3rd largest ISP with over 700,000 users before establishing operations in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Japan creating the world's first multi-national FREE ISP. In March 2000 X-Stream was acquired by French ISP Liberty Surf in a deal valuing X-Stream in the region of $122 million when Liberty Surf floated on the Paris Bourse one week later. Paul left Liberty Surf / X-Stream company to head Wippit in July 2000 and create the world’s only P2P Music Subscription Service. Wippit – Commercially launched in October 2001 Wippit is the World’s only Peer to Peer (P2P) Music Subscription Service. Based on the concept that music fans achieve better value accessing and downloading music through P2P protocols while also reimbursing the rights owners for every download Wippit is rapidly becoming a market leader in new uncharted territory. Wippit offers subscribers and customers buying single downloads unlimited permanent downloads with CD burning and full portability, is heavily influenced by market forces and is dedicated to providing consumers with a service they want. Distributing music for record 200 companies, including EMI, BMG and Sony, as well as audio books and mobile ringtones and more recently full length music and video downloads for mobile devices, Wippit makes a wide variety of content available from a variety of platforms including mobile phones, digital TV receivers and PC’s. Myers also heads a specialist non-music business consultancy drawing on his experience and contacts. |
