| Background: | Ian Hayward, aged 36, lives and works in the West Midlands and his passion for Internet technology developed after a spell working in America in the early 1990s.
But that was not the first time he reaped the rewards of his creative talent and tenacity combined with an understanding of the significance of technological advances. Aged just 11, Ian produced his first commercial computer application – it was for the BBC microcomputer and involved complex information for structural engineers, thanks to a family background in the steel industry. His interest intensified with the advent of Perry Pei-Yuan Wei’s Viola Browser back in 1992. Over the last 10 years, Ian has developed private Internet security applications primarily working with the open source community and produced some of the first extranet systems. He has also developed a raft of innovative applications during this period. Ian founded Glaxstar Ltd in 2000 in the Midlands - just a stone’s throw from the birthplace of the industrial revolution and has committed considerable time and money to the development of his inventions, the first of these to market is a revolutionary new technology called OwnArea. OwnArea is a personal Internet account system, which allows effective Internet protection to children regardless of which computer they are using to go online. Such has been the success of the initiative so far, that last year Glaxstar became a BT Broadband application partner, with OwnArea now featured on BT subscribers’ homepage listed under the essentials section alongside such industry heavyweights as MSN, Yahoo & Google. The last year has seen Glaxstar build strategic partners and industry awareness with OwnArea technology receiving endorsements from the British Phonographic Institute and The Institute of Direct Marketing. Ian believes the Internet is only just starting to realise its potential. He says the challenge of the near future is to recognise how people will want to evolve interaction with each other, as well as ways of gathering information. |
