| Background: | A journalist and editor for many years, Mike Butcher has helped pioneer journalism about the new media industry since its birth in 1994. After writing about online freelance, he joined New Media Age magazine in 1996, re-launching it from a 14 page newsletter into a full-blown magazine when he became editor in 1998. In 2000 he left to launch the US-owned Industry Standard Europe magazine as a senior editor, going freelance in 2001.
Since then he has written for The Financial Times, The Times, The Guardian, Broadcast, Marketing Week, New Media Age and Media Week among others. He has launched or re-launched web sites for New Media Age, UK Press Gazette, Media Week and Netimperative. He is also a technology columnist for The Irish Times newspaper in Dublin.
