Web 2.0 startup seeks developers / designers

Job Type Temporary / Contract / Project
Employer Type In-house / Client Organisation

Job Description

We are a new London-based startup that is working on a vertical search mashup.

The project will make use of some lovely Web 2.0 technologies (AJAX, RSS, APIs) and is entirely focused centred around the user experience.

We need help with developing the back-end (databases, feeds, search functionality, tagging) and designing the front-end (Ajax search interface, CSS, rounded corners, Wordpress).

The website will solve problems for consumers and we're planning to roll out initially in the US and UK later this year.

It is a very interesting project built around a solid business model, that was conceived before we started to think about the website. As such we believe this is a superb opportunity for enthusiastic and talented technologists.

Currently the project is privately-funded but we're expecting to announce a seed investment from a London-based VC in the coming month or two.

Candidate Requirements

Some of the things we're looking for are outlined below. If you think you might be able to help, or if you know somebody who sounds like a good fit, then please get in touch...

- Database skills - the project will use APIs, feeds and scraping to pull in content, and we need to make sense of this data.

- Innovative approach - we're interested in how Web 2.0 technology can improve the user experience, and in pushing the boundaries. You should be too.

- Interactivity - sticky, user-friendly tools are needed to help users find what they're looking for (and then spread word of mouth). Users need to search, sort, compare and share.

- User interface - a fast, intuitive UI is crucial to the success of the project.

- User-driven iterations - we will aim for perfection but expect some tweaks and changes along the way. Our users will help us finesse the website.

- Community - the website has been designed to generate lots of interactivity, and user-generated content is an area we're looking closely at.

- Collaboration and commitment - we are flexible about who we work with, and about the terms of our working relationship.

- Entrepreneurial culture - we are particularly interested in working with technologists who have an entrepreneurial outlook, who are interested in being part of something over the long-run, who understand the challenges faced by startups, and who understand our business and marketing goals.
