Job Description

The primary mandate of the Information Architect (IA) is to design a site that is easy and satisfying for the target audience to use, that meets the objectives of the business, within the business and technical constraints.

The IA is responsible for capturing business and user requirements and designing solutions using standard IA documentation. You will work closely with a wide range of team members - other IAs, visual designers, developers and business analysts. The role is also client facing and the IA should be capable of communicating their solutions to clients at all levels.
Candidate Requirements
  • Ability to quickly understand the client's business and business objectives, as well as target audience needs, and translate this into an effective site architecture.
  • Understanding of good usability practices online - how people behave online, what aspects of site design (structure, interface, content) help to make the overall experience simpler, more effective and more satisfying
  • Understanding of accessibility issues
  • General understanding of internet technologies and content management systems, and recognising the technical implications of design decisions
  • Familiarity with standard IA tools and methods
    - wireframing
    - process mapping / diagramming
    - site mapping
    - creating user profiles & personas
    - prototyping
    - observation of user behaviour
    - quantitative & qualitative research
  • Ability to explain rationale and present work effectively
