Job Description

johnlewis.com is John Lewis Direct's key trading platform, our main store front; the primary contact we have with our customers. The quality of the design and usability of the website is a major factor in the success of our business.

We are looking for a talented web designer to join our small web design team. The successful applicant will contribute to the visual design, styling and implementation of the website. Enhancing customer sales and loyalty by ease of use, clear design and branding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Design original artwork based upon brief from internal and external parties
* Maintenance of website content for product and non product systems
* Develop solutions for optimising page layouts whilst maximising traffic and sales opportunities
* Image retouching, manipulation and colour correction
* Quality control and release of images to live website systems
* Liaison with Merchandising, Content, Photographic and Front End development teams
* May be required to perform other tasks assigned by the Web Design Manager from time to time

Candidate Requirements

* Formal design education
* Fluency in Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Illustrator
* Experience with Flash, Quark/InDesign, Acrobat and Office beneficial
* A full understanding of HTML, CSS, web palettes, file conversion and compression and image formats
* Strong awareness of web standards and accessibility issues
* Good eye for detail
* IT-literate, with an understanding of IT development processes
* PC and Mac platform literate
* E-commerce experience advantageous
* Ability to work on own initiative, as well as part of a team
* Ability to organise own task schedules to tight deadlines
* Self-motivated, fast worker with the ability to work well under pressure
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
