How do you avoid getting embedded in governance with IA's?

Hi Claire,I assume you want a person to work on the project doing solely IA?  If that is correct then I think you will probably struggle a little as that is not often asked for. BUt that doesn't mean that the people aren't out there.  They may have to, of necessity, do some project management, account management, type work, in order to get work at all. For instance, if they work with a smallish agency there won't be resource to separate the jobs.  So, ifyou get people telling you they can do IA but also project management etc, maybe don't write off the individuals but press them closely on their IA skills.

Also, I would suggest that you set out very clearly the framework of the project and show where this role fits in, show clearly how EVERYTHING else is being done by someone else.  Ask to see examples of the IA work they have done, and take up references, very specifically.

Good luck with it.

We are looking for a IA as a contract resource - everyone we have seen tries to pitch it more as a project management/governance lead role and this is absolutely not what we are looking for.......how do we find the right user focused resource and make sure they don't try and weigh everything down with concrete?!
