Just found this discussion via Business in Berkshire.  We have set up a home technology service business dt3 and have been doing quite a bit of work with parents making broadband available around the house (for their kids).  The whole children on the Internet discussion is not well understood by parents and we are looking at setting up a digital parenting initiative that will highlight some of the issues.

For this specific problem there doesn't seem to be a sensible answer as even the parental control software that we are piloting doesn't block in application ads (it will stop a click throughs though).

Not sure if anyone else sees any value in a digital parenting initiative, don't have a lot of time to devote to it, but let me know.
