Not sure why there arent more women in Search. I think its because Search is still regarded as a bit of a propllerhead's thing - like Engineering.

There are plenty of inspirational women, but here is a random selection that have inspired me:

Famous, of course is Martha Lane Fox - Lastminute.com are a very data/customer insight focussed company, whose success has been driven by careful & strategic analytics -  probably worth a mention, I reckon.

Not so famous yet (sorry Elisabeth!) is Elisabeth Van Couvering at LSE.  She is doing some really interesting research addressing search engines from a sociological rather than technical point of view, including looking at implicit bias in search engines - biase for example towards large, corporate and American sites, and perhaps implicit gender bias too - http://personal.lse.ac.uk/vancouve/index.htm

Andrea Hadley, one of the founders and board member of the Web Analytics Association and president of NetSetGo is an inspiration to me - http://www.netsetgo.com/

I could go on, but I'm sure other people have different suggestions.

thanks,

I recently delivered a course ' How to take the headache out of search engine marketing' and as a way to warm up the audience I gave a quick history of the internet, search engines, current trends, etc.

One of the delegates pointed out that I had not mentioned a single woman as a key contributor to the whole internet and search industry.

Help! Most of my delegates are women and I really would like to make my presentation as balanced as possible.

So if you know of any women I should mention as part of my course, feel free to post your replies in this forum.

Thanks in advance.
