With the ever changing search results on Google, are they trying to beat SEO Companies and increase their Adword revenue?
Over the past month something strange has been happening to Google results and I think that this is a way of increasing revenue for it's Adwords service. One day you can be top 5, next day top 10 and so on and I don't think it is the 'Sandbox' effect of the Googl Dance either.
Does anyone have any feedback on the situation?

I don't think it's in Google's long term interest to kill off good quality SEO but they obviously need to find ways of beating SE Spam.
One of my sites (type 'Free Mobile UK' in Google) suffered for a couple of weeks with the recent changes but I didn't panic (well, not much anyway!) and now it's back in the 'right position'. It is my humble opinion that if you do the basics regularly and well you will not lose your position in the long term.

I've had ups and downs with Google over the years. Recently one of my sites jumped from the 11th page to the top position, which was a welcome suprise. I'm not going to be suprised when it falls back to page 11 or 12.
I would expect Google, MSN, Yahoo and everyone else to develop their natural search engines to support their paid commercial products. I would too - so I always expect erratic behaviour.
But I think that the role of the SEO is becoming less strategic for two reasons:
1) PPC is cost effective. You can get a lot of very targetted traffic out of the budget you would spend on SEO consultancy.
2) There is a lot of 'natural optimisation' going on when you design sites that are have good content, are accessible, usable and follow standards.
So rather than look for specific SEO expertise I would look for a professional or agency that includes SEO as part of their service.

Google is the scourge of my life right now.
Recently launched a humble website - www.rosepackaging.co.uk.
For keyword phrase "plastic carrier bags" it appear top 3 on msn all the time.
For the phrase "rose packaging", in google the website does not even appear, even though it is a much more relevant keyword phrase.
The site has been live for 6 weeks now, and have had no change. I have more links than the competition going to the website (even though Google does not show this in it's "link:" report but MSN does). Plus all alt tags are reviewed on regular basis and there is plenty of text on the home page and other pages etc. Any text links are done using relevant keywords too...
This is how Google displays the website. - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=rosepackaging&meta=
Any suggestions would be very useful as we are fairly new to all this?
