I agree with most of this but I don’t agree that "Click Here" should be avoided like the plague: the fact is that people online, just as with any other direct response medium, respond to a demand to do something.
Marketers have known for years that phrases like "Complete the coupon", "Phone us NOW" and so on, actually do work: they increase response rates even if only by a tad or less.
It is bad for SEO and all that but when it increases your response rate by, say 0.1%, it’s worth doing.
I’ll hazard a guess that some people click on my "click here" link above too.
