I'm not worried... receiving brouchures never hurt too much ;)
But I am curious about such systems and the new legislation in place that regulates how personal information should be dealt with.
Do I have the right to ask a company to delete all information about me, even what is archived i paper form in some dark and damp basement?

Nothing ever realy gets deleted in IT. Even if they took you off the file there would some audit trail or backup somewhere that would have your details on it.
If they deleted you off the database, you could easliy get put back - suppose you called them tomorrow. At least now they have a record that you were removed before and if a query arises they can track back what happened.
Stop worrying, its all standard practice.
