Before we leave Alexa there is one caviat. One of our competitors (bankers almanac - part of the reed group) set up a banking technology buyers guide and immediately achieves a stellar Alexa rating. I was impressed, but of course its a heck of a brand (well it is in the banking industry).
One day I got called by one of their sales people and found out that their traffic was much less than specatcular. So I investigated and discovered that as they were using a hosted content management system (mediabrains) the Alexa ranking included ALL the sites on the hosted system - literally hundreds of sites.
So you need to be careful of this one.
