A blog script can easily ne adapted for some other, sure, but then it's not a blog anymore. We are talking specifically about employee diaries published on their business' web site.
My view is that in most cases it's a waste of time, because a) viewers are not interested b) risk of PR disasters and c) employee's time is valuable and there are better business driving activities someone can do if he/she has time on his/her hands.
I think blogs can work for sites that have a strong content and community elements and established contributors who's personal blogs become as much of an asset as an editorial may be. blogs can work well on sites like this one, The Register or The Motley Fool, but not on corporate sites and e-tailers, for example.
