I agree that a skillful person can turn business blogging to his/her advantage.
In fact I am going to use it myself...

I was just questioning benefits such as improved position in search engines
(temporary thing in my view). In my experience big companies, FTSE 100 class
are seriously risk averse in everything that can affect their reputation, which
is why I think PR would not even agree to pre-approve blog posts.
